The Living Room
We removed the temporary wall in the living room. I don’t think in all my blogging on the extension I ever mentioned that temporary wall. It was pretty much the first thing that got built, probably predating my first blog post about the extension.
Anyway, it cut off the back third of the living room, to give us two thirds of a living room while the back third became ‘outside’ for a while due to demolishing the back wall of the house. After the extension was build and the space became ‘inside’ again, it became a storage area of all the building materials etc. There was also much making good required, and so the temporary wall stayed in place for about two and a half years.
It is telling that in all that time I have hardly any photos of that room. We’ve basically lived in the kitchen, and really just used the living room for watching telly or playing on the wii. But I did manage to dig up a couple of pictures to show just how pokey it was.

See that wall on the right that is butted up hard against the fire surround? That’s the temporary wall.

There’s another picture of it, behind Alex. See it had pictures and a TV hung on it? It was quite a permanent kind of temporary wall.
Anyway, it has gone now. Here’s the effect:

This is basically the same shot as above, same fire surround, and pictures over the mantlepiece, but there is something missing... oh yes the wall! Lots of lovely space and open plan through into the playroom in the extension.
There is lots of finishing off to do, quite a lot of bare plasterboard and exposed timber on display, but really, at this stage I don’t care about any of that. Just check out the space :-)
