Excavations
Another extension update.
Since the last post, nearly 4 weeks ago, the weather has cooled down again, and I still haven't got the concreting done. This winter is beginning to bug me. Next week my Mum and Dad are coming up, but if the weather isn't warmer then I'm not going to be able to do anything anyway.
All I've done since the last post has been to clear and excavate the site ready for the floor and the other foundation. There was a lot of tidying up to do, followed by a lot of digging. Just for reference, here is what the site looked like a month ago.

And here is (nearly) what it looks like now.

The differences from this picture to reality are that the digger isn't there any more, nor the children (wow that would be strange, to have children levitating in my building site) and also we tried to dig a trench for the foundations. The brick you see in the foreground marks the middle of the trench, and it goes to meet the corner of next door's house, which you can see in the background.
In actual fact the digging was not entirely trouble free - day one was beset by the mechanical failure of a dumper we were using, while on day two, the aforementioned trench refused to get dug, being filled with bedrock as it was (and still is).
And there is one more difference between the photo I took on Sunday and the site right now, which you can see in the aerial (okay, out of a window) shot below...

You can just make out the trench at the top of the photo, hiding under the six inches of snow. Which accounts for why I'm currently typing this, not breaking that stone out of the trench, even though I have a breaker on hire :-(
Hopefully the weather will improve and I'll get the trench dug, foundations laid and the rest of the under-building built next week.
